CEP 820 Reflection
Looking Back...
In this course, we had to design an online classroom. I chose to create somewhat of a "flipped" classroom due to the nature of my job and being an elementary teacher. When thinking about creating this course, it was important to think about what would work best for my students and for me. Please take a look at my website. For this course, i focused on FRACTIONS and worked on that unit only. I hope that in the future, I will be able to build on what I have and work on the other units I have labeled as well.
I felt that my biggest battle was combining my face-to-face and allowing for a smooth transition to my online portion. I think that you can get carried away with only thinking one way or the other. Therefore, I added "Classroom Connections" to each page stating what would be done in the classroom to ensure a smooth transition and give the students a reason for what they were doing.
Also, this course and the UDL principles really required me to think outside the box. How can you keep the students engaged, wanting to learn more and active while still getting your point across. It was important to look at different technological avenues and ways to incorporate more than just Google Docs and a discussion Forum. After searching I was able to find comic strips, voicethread, kidspiration, storybird and other ways students could express their findings.
Lastly, I think it is important to remember your way of teaching as well. Although this course is designed to be an online course, you are still the educator and you need to incorporate your pedagogical thinking. Good Luck!
